Ras Mo (San Francisco)

Ras Mo - a pioneer of performance poetry in the Caribbean, is an accomplished performer, poet, recording artist, composer, director and cultural activist. Born in Dominica, of African and Amerindian ancestry, Ras Mo is an experienced teacher of popular theater and developer of many successful training programs, artistic productions, and major community events addressing health, behavioral issues, cultural diversity and violence prevention. Skilled in retreat and workshop facilitation and participatory learning and evaluation, Ras Mo has toured across North America and England. Now based in the San Francisco, his latest project, “The Pink and Blue Arts for Violence Prevention Project”, includes a CD of original songs and performance poems to accompany curriculum modules and workshops on youth and domestic violence, gender socialization, AIDS, drugs, teen pregnancy, cultural pride, and youth empowerment.
