Cheryl L’Hirondelle (Vancouver)

Cheryl L’Hirondelle [www.ndnnrkey.net] is a Alberta-born, Vancouver-based interdisciplinary artist of mixed ancestry (Cree / Métis / German / Polish). Since the early 1980’s, she has created, performed, and presented work in a variety of disciplines: music, storytelling, performance art, theatre and new media. Her newest net.art project, wępinâsowina [www.wepinasowina.net], was commissioned by the late Âhâsiw Maskęgon-Iskwęw for Urban Shaman Inc as part of their online Stormspirits exhibition.
Cheryl is the recipient of the 2005 and 2006 imagineNATIVE New Media Award. In 2004, she became the first Aboriginal artist from this land now known as Canada to be invited to present her work in DAK’ART Lab at the 6th Edition of the Dakar Biennale for Contemporary African Art. Her newest musical group, M’Girl, won the 2006 Canadian Aboriginal Music Award for Best Female Traditional/Cultural Album and was nominated for two Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards (Best New Artist, Best Group).
